The Junior Hockey team traveled down to Lake Placid, NY this
past weekend for two games against National Sports Academy. The first game was a
back and forth shoot–out between the two teams. The Wolverines were led by
Andrew Irving (Beverly, MA) and Ryan McDonough (Dorchester, MA), both with two
goals. In addition, Luke DiMarco (Glastonbury, CT), Cam McLain (Westbrooke,
ME), and Zach Lemerand (Grosse Ile, MI) each added one goal. Ryan Slatky
(Manchester, NH) earned not only his first victory of the season, but the team’s
as well with a 7-6 final.
With a
quick turnaround, the Wolverines faced off early Saturday morning. This game
turned out to be the opposite of the first game, with low scoring and great
goaltending. The outstanding goalkeeping would come from Michael DeFillippo
(Montreal, QC). Brendon Duff got the scoring going for the Wolverines with a
great shot. NSA would rally back to tie the game late in the second period.
Going into the third period, the Wolverines continued grinding and creating
scoring chances, which is when Duff added his second goal of the game, it was
ultimately the game-winner with a 2-1 final score.
