Jr. A Goes 2-0 In New Brunswick

After a lengthy ride up to Canada the Jr. A hockey team shook off their bus legs with a solid win 4-2. They played a very impressive first and third period which sealed the victory. Goals were scored by Ryan Donovan (Bridgewater, MA) who had two with assists from Alex Bartlett (South Burlington, VT) and Dan Sullivan (Burlington, MA). Brendan Moore (Springfield, MA) had a goal with assists from Dan Concannon (Everett, MA) and Ryan Menard (Ashland, MA). Dean Cavicchi (Plymouth, MA) scored with assists to Sean Yule (West Newton, MA). Defensively Yule and Jon Delpadre (Providence, RI) were a +2 on the game playing solid defense. Tyler Gallagher (Nahant, MA) played well in net staying undefeated in starts stopping 16 of 18 shots.

In the second game of the two day series, BA had a sloppy start to the game. The boys had a hard time getting ready and came out sluggish. They eventually got it together scoring the first two late in the first period. Goals came from Bartlett assists to Brad McGovern (Haverhill, MA) and Matt Buckley (Canton, MA), and Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY) with assists from Cavicchi and Ryan Kulik (Pembroke, MA). Donovan added a late one in the third to take the lead off a feed from Bartlett. The Wolverines then gave up a goal with twenty seconds to play to force overtime. There was no action in the overtime, so the game came down to a shootout. Tyler Albano (Beverly, MA) scored the lone goal and Will Husic (Glastonbury, CT) denied all three shooters to take home the 4-3 win. Husic stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced.

Up next the Jr. A team will host the New Hampton School. Game time is at 4:00 PM on Wednesday February 2nd.

Photos From Lake Placid

Here are some shots Coach Meserve took while the guys were in Lake Placid over the weekend for the Northwood Tournament.

The team waits to get on the fresh ice for some practice before games start.

It was a great experience for the guys to play at such an historic rink.

Northwood Tournament Recap

After the long bus ride to New York, the team came out strong in the first game against the Springfield Pics. With the score tied at 1-1, everyone was fighting for the go ahead goal. When it looked like the game was heading into overtime, with under a minute left on the clock, the Pics snuck the winning goal past BA’s goaltender Will Husic (Glastonburt, CT). Husic saved 18 of the 20 shots he saw. Brad McGovern (Haverhill, MA) scored the lone goal for BA with assists from Ryan Donovan (Bridgewater, MA) and Ryan Menard (Ashland, MA).

In the second game of the tournament, BA had another great effort. When Rothesay Netherwood stepped on the ice, they didn’t know what hit them. BA pulled together, realizing they needed a win to play in the championship bracket. BA showed no mercy, securing a 5-3 win. The Wolverines goals were scored by Sean Yule (West Newton, MA), McGovern, Donovan, Cavicchi, and McGovern again as he sealed the win. Tyler Gallagher played between the pipes, and remains undefeated for the season saving 17 of the 20 shots he saw.

In the final game of the week, the Wolverines were playing against former Bridgon Academy coach Jamie Printz. The team knew they were going to be talented, but also knew they needed a win to secure a spot in the final four. After a tremendous 50 minutes of hockey the two teams skated to a 3-3 tie ending the tournament for the Wolverines. Goals came from Dan Concannon (Everett, MA) from Tyler Albano (Beverly, MA) and Menard. Charlie Cobb (South Burlington, VT) scored next from Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY) and Ryan Dooley (Topsfield, MA). Kulik scored the final goal off a feed from Laliberte. Brad Cray (Raleigh, NC) played the final game in net stopping 21 of the 24 shots fired his way.

Coach Travis was pleased with the weekend saying, “the guys played very well and should be very proud of their efforts. They played three very talented teams and skated away 1-1-1 in the tournament just missing the final round with the tie.”

BA Picks Up Win After Break

The Jr. B hockey team traveled to Laconia, NH to take on the Laconia Leafs last night. After the Leafs scored the first goal of the game, BA stepped up, worked hard, and skated away with a big 6-3 win.

Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY) led the scoring with three goals in the game. Ryan Dooley (Topsfiled, MA), Dan Cushing (Wilmington, MA), and Tim Marshall (Hull, MA) scored the last three goals of the night for the Wolverines. John Fitzgerald (Arlington, MA) played between the pipes and picked up the win stopping 28 of the 31 shots he saw.

Coach Meserve was happy with the win saying, "we started slow and luckily only were down 1-0 after 1. Our conditioning was all the difference. The pre-season conditioning has made us a very tough team to play against."

This win brings the team record to 12-6-1. The team will face off against the Walpole Express in a home game on the 15th at 3:00 P.M. Next they will travel to Middlebury College to play their J.V. squad on the 19th at 7:00 P.M.

Jr. A Skates Over the Competition

Both the Jr. A hockey team attended the EJHL Showcase Marlboro Mass this past weekend and skated away with a winning record of 3-0-1.

The team started out with an impressive 5-1 win in the first game of the tournament against a very talented Jr. Bruins team. The young men put together a solid 50 minutes of hockey and put college coached on their radar with strong defense and making the most out of their opportunities.

Dan Concannon (Burlington, MA) scored first with assists from Brad McGovern (Haverhill, MA) and Shawn Kenney (Braintree, MA). Charlie Cobb (South Burlington, VT) followed suit with assists from Ryan Dooley (Topsfield, MA) and Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY). Ryan Kulik (Pembroke, MA) then scored an unassisted goal bringing the total to three. Brendan Moore (Springfield, MA) finished a pass from Dan Cushing (Wilmington, MA) for the fourth goal of the game. Matt Buckley (Canton, MA) scored next with assists from Ryan Menard (Ashland, MA) and Brad Cray (Raleigh, NC). Cray played a very strong performance picking up right where he left off before break stopping 27/28 shots.

In the second game the team faced Andre Laurendeau which is a very talented and physical junior club from Canada. The team played hard all night against BA, tying the game at 3-3 with under a minute to play the game ended in a tie after 50 minutes of hockey. It was a great hockey game to watch up and down the ice, lots of action and excitement. BA would have liked to have pulled away with the win, but played very well.

Concannon started off the scoring as he put away a pass from Moore. Dean Cavicchi (Plymouth, MA) scored with help from Brendan Fitzpatrick (Winthrop, MA) and Mike Peacock (Barnstable, MA). Ryan Donovan (Bridgewater, MA) rounded out BA’s goals for the night with an assist from Fitzpatrick. Slick Willy Husic (Glastonbury, CT) steered away 23/26 shots.

The third game saw another great performance from the Wolverines as solid goaltending and defense lead to an impressive 3-1 win against The Ontario Hockey Academy. The lone goal surrendered came from a long shot off the glass that took a funny hop into the open net as Tyler Gallagher (Nahant, MA) went out to play the puck.

Steve Laliberte (Falmouth, MA) got the team going with a goal assisted by Tyler Albano (Beverly, MA). Kulik scored next off a feed from Spisso. Albano scored the third and final goal with assists from Bartlett and Donovan. Gallagher had a very strong outing surrendering only one fluke goal stopping 23/24 shots.

The wolverines continued their impressive undefeated tournament with a 10-2 win over the Lake Erie Warriors. Not only did the offense dominate with a season high 10 goals, but there was great goaltending between Cray and Husic who split the game. The mid-west team was no match for the BA clan as they started off tied 2-2 and erupted with 8 un-answered goals to finish off the tournament.

The goals were contributed by Concannon, Laliberte, Bartlett, Moore, McGovern, Cavicchi, Kenney, Spisso, Albano, and Kulik. Cray kicked away 12/14 shots while Willy Husic stopped all 13 shots he saw.

The Bridgton Academy Wolverines were undefeated for the second straight tournament showing off their talents in front of large crowds and many college coaches. They continue to impress their two coaches who are again proud of their efforts as they continue to play their best hockey on the biggest games.

“Playing that well in front of that many fans and college coaches is a real treat from a coaching stand-point. These guys came out showed how well they play as a team and I am confident they impressed the coaches who watched them. They continue to grow and get better by listening and sticking together; it’s a real joy to be apart of a team that is not only as talented, but as close. It’s a whole lot of fun,” said Coach Travis

On the Defensive side of things for the tournament anchorman Fitzpatrick lead the team with a +5 rating followed by Kenney, Buckley, and Menard +4 respectively.

The team's next competition is on the road as they travel to Hebron Academy to play at 3:30 P.M. On January 19th.
