Jr. B Goes Out With A Bang

This weekend the Jr. B team ended their 2010-2011 season on a positive note with a 7-4 win over the New England Stars. Charlie Gendron (Boxford, MA) jump started with Wolverines offensive attack with an assist from Sean Williamson (Falmouth, MA). Williamson then scored two back to back goals to bring the total up to three for the Wolverines. His first was assisted by Erik Burke (Manchester, NH) and Dan Cushing (Wilmington, MA). Williamson’s second goal was assisted by Gendron and Tanner Chase (York, ME). Todd Brow (Winslow, ME) tallied a goal off assists from Ryan Dooley (Topsfield, MA) and Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY). Cushing netted the next goal with help from Sean Yule (West Newton, MA) and Spisso. Spisso then netted his own goal off a feed from Dooley and Brow. Tim Marshall (Hull, MA) recorded BA’s last goal of the season off a pass from Sam Parent (Hinesburg, MA) and Mike Clancy (Hampton, NH). Jesse Little (Freedom, ME) started in net and saved 17 of 20 shots. John Fitzgerald (Arlington, MA) came in for the third period and saved 9 of the 10 shots he saw.

With the season officially over, Coach Mike Meserve is happy with the results. "We had a great season. I know what I'm the most proud of is how we came together as a team and how we competed each and every time we stepped on the ice," commented Meserve.

New Hampton Sneaks By BA

When the Jr. A hockey team took on New Hampton in a mid week game, it was a late turnover which ended the close game in a 4-3 loss for the Wolverines. While they played a tremendous third period and almost skated away with a win, Coach Travis commented “they didn’t play for 60 minutes.”

Ryan Kulik (Pembroke, MA) scored first for BA with assists from also tallied a goal off a feed from Brad McGovern (Haverhill, MA).Dean Cavicchi (Plymouth, MA) and Steve Laliberte (Falmouth, MA). Matt Buckley (Canton, MA) Dan Cushing (Wilmington, MA) netted the Wolverines third and final goal of the game with an assist from Laliberte. Tyler Gallagher (Nahant, MA) played in net for BA and stopped 17 of the 21 shots for his first loss of the season.

With only a few games left the Wolverines will host the Eastern Kodiaks on Friday the 25th at 6:00 P.M.

Jr. Ties with the South Shore Kings

The Jr. A hockey team traveled to Foxboro Mass to play one of the top teams in the Eastern Junior Hockey League. After a very fast paced game the Wolverines were satisfied skating away with a 3-3 tie. Brad Cray (Raleigh, NC) played exceptional in net against the same program where he was last year in a redemption game. Stopping 26 of 29 shots he had one of his most impressive starts of the season. Goals were scored by Alex Bartlett (South Burlington, VT) assisted by Ryan Donovan (Bridgewater, MA), Steve Laliberte (Falmouth, MA) unassisted, and Dan Concannon (Everett, MA) assisted from Ryan Menard (Ashland, MA) and Tyler Albano (Beverly, MA). Dan Cushing (Wilmington, MA) and Brendan “General” Fitzpatrick (Winthrop, MA) were both +1 and anchored the defense.

The Wolverine hockey team looks to continue their historic season as the end of the regular season approaches this weekend when they host two and travel for two, as they gear up for Nationals.

Jr. B Dominates The Weekend

This weekend the Jr. B hockey team outscored their opponents 19-7. Ryan Dooley (Topsfield, MA), Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY), and Todd Brow (Winslow, ME) all recorded hat tricks in one of the two games.

In the first game of the weekend, the Jr. B team slapped the Worcester Wildcats with a 9-3 win. Goals were scored by Tim Marshall (Hull, MA), Ryan Dooley (3), Sam Parent (Hinesburg, VT), John Delpadre (North Providence, RI), Sean Williamson (Falmouth, MA) (2), and Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY). The assists game from Mike Clancy (Hampton, NH), Tanner Chase (York, ME), Chris Watkins (Spokane, WA), Brooks Billingham (Martha’s Vineyard, MA), Todd Brow (Winslow, ME), Charlie Gendron (Boxford, MA), Erik Burke (Manchester, NH), Spisso, Parent, Delpadre, and Marshall. Derek Spencer (Rochester, NH) played in net for the Wolverines and stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced.

On Sunday the team faced off with Middlesex Community College and skated away with a 10-4 win. In this contest goals came from Burke (2), Brow (3), Watkins, Spisso (3), and Delpadre. Assists were credited to Parent, Marshall, Williamson, Gendron, Dooley, Spisso, Burke, Billingham, Chase, and Brendan Fitzpatrick (Winthrop, MA). Jesse Little (Freedom, ME) started out in net saving 15 of the 16 shots he faced. John Fitzgerald (Arlington, MA) clocked 20 minutes in net and made 9 saves of the 12 shots he faced.

Jr. A Breaks School Record

In the first game of the weekend the Jr. A hockey team was playing to tie the school win record at 24. Bridgton came out strong, with Dan Concannon (Everett, MA) scoring first for Bridgton with assists from Tyler Albano (Beverly, MA) and Brendan Moore (Springfield, MA). Moore then finished a pass from Concannon and John Delpadre (North Providence, RI) for Bridgton’s second goal of the contest. DJ Cavicchi (Plymouth, MA) scored the game winning goal with assists from Ryan Kulik (Pembroke, MA) and Steve Laliberte (Falmouth, MA). Brad Cray (Raleigh, NC) played in net for the wolverines and stopped 20 of the 22 shots he saw.

With the tying win behind them, the Wolverines took the ice a day later for what was sure to be a challenging game. They faced off against the South Kent School who is one of the top hockey teams in New England hoping to break Bridgton Academy’s win record.

South Kent had an early lead, but it did not last long. Moore passed the puck to Matt Buckley (Canton, MA) who ripped a shot from the blue line that the goalie didn’t see coming. Next Ryan Donovan (Bridgewater, MA) finished a pass from Alex Bartlett (South Burlington, VT) and Brendan Fitzpatrick (Winthrop, MA) for Bridgton’s second goal of the game. Concannon then passed the puck to Charlie Cobb (South Burlington, VT) who skated it up the ice and found Erik Burke (Manchester, NH) who snuck up the middle, took the pass, and scored the third goal of the game for BA. Concannon scored next off a feed from Moore and Fitzpatrick. Cavicchi tallied his first goal of the night with assists from Shawn Kenney (Braintree, MA) and Fitzpatrick. Moore finished a pass from Concannon for the sixth goal. Cavicchi took a feed from Donovan and put it away for his second, teams seventh. Concannon scored once more from Moore and Albano. Cavicchi then completed his hat trick and secured the 9-5 win with a goal assisted by Kulik.

Defensively Fitzaptrick lead the pack with a +5 rating for the night, followed by Yule who was +3. Concannon lead the offense with four points for the night, and Cavicchi followed with three. Cray played in net for a second game and stopped 21 of the 26 shots he faced.

Up next the Jr. A Team will face the The Eastern Kodiaks at 6:00 P.M. on Friday the 25th.

Jr. B Falls to Worcester Academy in Close Game

The Jr. B hockey team took the ice again against Worcester Academy. While it was a close fought game, Worcester pulled ahead and secured the 4-3 win. Tim Marshall (Hull, MA) scored the Wolverines first goal of the night off assists from Sean Yule (West Newton, MA) and Sam Parent (Hinesburg, VT). Todd Brow (Winslow, ME) scored second on a penalty shot. Dan Cushing (Wilmington, MA) scored the third and final goal of the night off a feed from Yule and Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY).

Up next the team will face the Worcester Wildcats at Holy Cross on Saturday the 19th at 6:00 P.M.
