Upcoming Events

The Wolverine JR Hockey team will host the Stanstead College Spartans on sunday afternoon at 1:00PM in Bridgton Maine for their first meeting of the season.  Connor Murray will get the start for the Wolverines as they hope to continue their solid play.

The Prep Hockey team will travel to Mass to play their second game against the East Coast Wizards November 3rd Away.

JR Vs Advantage

Game two on Saturday was a face-off against another split Boston Advantage squad (A mix between their tier 1 elite team and other ISL prep players).  The Wolverines started off slow and Connor Murray (Needham, Ma) was the saving grace as his kicked aside shot after shot.  Finally, the wolverines settled in and started to play tough hockey.  Halfway through the first half John Fanara (Dennis, Ma) forced a turnover and put a rocket top corner to take the 1-0 lead.  The play continued to go back and forth until Jon Hart (Bridgewater, Ma) found the back of the net with 10 seconds left in the period (assists from Kevin Doherty and DJ Walsh).  Connor Murray stayed strong through the game as the Wolverines took control of the second half.  John Murtagh (Milton, MA) found the back of the net with a slap shot from the point (assists from Dustin Walsh, and Merrek Peters).  Two minutes later Adam Lundberg (Winthrop, Ma) put a shot crossbar down from the top of the circle for his first of the year (Assists from Vincellette and Mitch Paulson).
Connor Murray recorded his 4th straight win and first shutout of the year (stopped all 23 shots).

"It's nice to see the team get on a hot streak and play with some confidence.  It's not easy to win 7 in a row and I hope we continue to move forward and build as a team" added Lounsbury

Jr Team vs Advantage White

On Saturday morning the Wolverines were back at it against a Boston Advantage split squad team compiled of ISL Prep players.  The first half of the game went back and forth as both goaltenders came up with save after save.  Eiserman was strong in net again as he led his team to their 6th straight win.  In the second half of the game the Wolverines woke up and the flood gates opened.  Conor Ferrera (Coto De Caza, CA) started the scoring as he popped his own rebound in top shelf, short side. BA continued their strong play and minutes later found the back of the net on a turn around slap shot from the right side by Alex Vincellette (Hadley, MA).  The Advantage kept fighting and put the game within in one as a Thayer Academy forward ripped one far side low blocker on Eiserman.   BA rebounded nicely as Curtis Fairholm (Dublin, Oh) ripped home a rebound on a Tucker Ross shot (2nd assists Cam Roy) to take a 3-1 lead.  BA dominated the play from that point forward and had goals from Tucker Ross (Dustin Walsh Assist), Merek Peters (Fountain Valley, CA) assisted by Fairholm and the finishing touch was a nice goal by Conor Ferrera on a John Murtagh shot.  Eiserman stopped 24 of 26 for the win.

Other Notable Players-  DJ Walsh (Needham Ma)
Jon Hart (Bridgewater, Ma)
Mike Paulson, (Winthrop, Ma)

Jr team vs South Shore Kings (split)

Over the weekend the BA Wolverines traveled to Hingham, Ma and Exeter NH to compete in 4 games.  On Friday night the Wolverines faced off against a South Shore Kings split squad.  The Wolverines came out of the gate slow and fell 1-0 early on a rebound goal by the Kings. 5 minutes later Tom Braswell (Lynn, MA) battled in front to find the back of the net and even the score at 1 (Braswell, Assisted by John Murtagh).  The Wolverines continued to dominate the play down low  and quickly went ahead 2-1 on a second chance wrap around by Drayton Chasteen (Winthrop, Ma).  The strong play continued and the Wolverines capitalized on another rebound in front.  A shot from the point landed on Christian Going's (York, Me) and he found the back of the net to take a 3-1 lead.  South Shore battled back to come within one in the second half.  The Wolverines were able to fight off the Kings for the win.  Chris Eiserman (Newburyport, MA) was great in net stopping 24 of 26 shots faced.

"I though the boys were a little sluggish coming off the bus.  They need to realize how important mental preparation is for each hockey game. Each night the play in front of college coaches and need to be consistent to catch their attention.  At the end of the day it's a good road hockey win" added Lounsbury.

Notable players:  D- Tucker Ross (Ashburn, VA)
D- Dustin Walsh (Concord, NH)
F- Tom Braswell (Lynn, Ma)

Homecoming Weekend

Jr Team Announces Captains.

The Bridgton Academy Junior Team Hockey Coach Jonathan Lounsbury recently announced that defenseman Matt Lis (Wettersfield, CT) and Dustin Walsh (Concord, NH) will serve as captain for the 2012-2013 season. "These two young men are exemplary leaders for our squad" said Lounsbury. "Lis was an easy pick since day one. A very quiet young man who does everything at 100%, he is a lead by example kind of guy. Walsh brings more of the vocal leadership to the locker room. Not only has he worked his tail off to get where he is today, the guys really respect him and listen when he has something to say. We expect our captains to set good examples for their teammates both on the ice and off, and these two players have the ability to do that.”

The Wolverines opened up their season with two games against a tough New England Wolves squad. On Saturday night the Wolverines fought hard for 60 minutes and came up short losing to the Wolves by a score of 4-2. "We made a few mistakes during the game and unfortunately those mistakes found the back of the net. The Wolves had played 9 games prior to playing us and it was our first. I'm proud of the effort and excited to see the growth in our team" said Lounsbury. Chris Eiserman backstopped the Wolverines stopping 31-35 shots. Goals came from Alex Vincellete (Hadley, MA)assisted by Mitch Paulson (Winthrop, Ma) Connor Ferrera ( Coto De Caza, CA)and Kevin Doherty (Wakefield, MA) unassisted.

On Sunday the Wolverines played game two against the Wolves and came up short again. "We came out too wound up and our nerves got the best of us. After the 2nd period our staff told our young men to relax and have fun. Our third period was outstanding, unfortunately it was too late." Connor Murray played well in net stopping 28-32 shots his faced. The lone goal for the Wolverines came from Jon Fanara(Dennis,MA) assisted by Connor Ferrera. "I am very happy to get a few games under our belt and get the jitters out. I have all the confidence in the world that we as a team will bounce back and start the climb to a record breaking year" added Lounsbury. The Wolverines square up tonight Oct 5th, 7:00PM against rival Sainte Foy (Quebec)at Home.

Wolverine Prep Team Captain Announced.

The Wolverines Prep hockey coach Mike Meserve named forward Beau LaFlamme(Bourne,Ma) Captain for the 2012-2013 Prep Hockey season. "The love of teammates and team provides the fundamental seed for leadership," said Meserve. "Beau's work ethic on and off the ice is outstanding. He is a young man who carries himself as a professional, plays with passion, grit and determination. We look forward to Beau having a big year."

The prep team opened up their season last weekend with a Friday night battle against a strong Middlesex Islanders Club. Nick Hegarty was sensational in net stopping 41 of the 46 shots he faced. Unfortunately, the Wolverines came up short falling to the Islanders in overtime by a score of 4-3. The Wolverine goals came from Anthony Figlioli (York, ME), John Ferguson (West Haven, CT) and Ryan Bertone (Marshfield, ma). The prep team travels to Clifton Park, NY this weekend to play two games against a tough CP Dynamo Squad.
