In the first game of the weekend against Rice AAA, it was a well played game for the Jr. A team who skated away with the 4-3 OT win. Alex Bartlett (South Burlington, VT) tallied two goals in his home rink/town. His goals came from assists from Ryan Donovan (Bridgewater, MA) who had two and Brad McGovern (Haverhill, MA). Ryan Kulik (Pembroke, MA) played a very strong game as well netting the third goal in regulation. Dean Cavicchi (Plymouth, MA) scored the game winner in OT from a feed by Kulik to give BA the win against rival Rice. Brad Cray (Raleigh, NC) played very well in net leading with his 16 appearance of the season. He stopped 19 of the 23 shots that came his way.
In the second game with Rice, BA had another hard fought game which resulted in a 3-2 loss for the Wolverines. Bridgton came out very strong in the first but had a sluggish second period that put them in a 1-1 tie. Going down 3-1 late in the third, a late goal from McGovern wasn’t enough to bring the boys back. Assist went to Donovan on a short-handed goal. Brendan Moore (Springfield, MA) had the equalizer in the first with assists coming from Tyler Albano (Beverly, MA) and Brendan Fitzpatrick (Winthrop, MA). Will Husic (Glastonbury, CT) played solid in net surrendering 3 goals on 20 shots that he faced.
After two games in Vermont, the Wolverines traveled to Quebec to face Stanstead College and ended the weekend with a tough 5-4 loss. After taking a 1-0 lead after the first intermission a sluggish second period cost the BA wolverines a chance at victory as they gave up five unanswered in the second period. The team didn’t let the poor play and four-goal deficient get them down. They came out on fire in the third period scoring three goals to bring the game to a close 5-4. A couple late chances made the game very interesting, but the Wolverines could not make up for the second period which ultimately cost them the game. Goals came from Dan Sullivan (Burlington, MA) on a power play from Donovan. Erik Burke (Manchester, NH) tallied a goal with assists from both line-mates, Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY) and Todd Brow (Winslow, ME). Steve Laliberte (Falmouth, MA) finished a pass from John Delpadre (Providence, RI) for Bridgton’s third goal of the night. Kulik netted the final goal of the night for the Wolverines with assists from Cavicchi and Laliberte. Cray played very well in net stopping a season high 27 of 32 shots.
Up next the Jr. A team will face the Walpole Express at home on February 11th at 6:00 P.M.
