The Jr. A hockey team had a tough weekend, but it is not stopping them moving forward. They started off the weekend with a close matchup with Hebron Academy which they lost 5-4. Brad Cray (Raleigh, NC) played in net and stopped 28 of the 32 shots that came his way. On Saturday the Wolverines faced Rice High School’s AAA team. After a hard fought game the Wolverines were shutout as Rice skated away with a 3-0 win. Will Husic (Glastonbury, CT) played between the pipes and saved 21 of the 24 shots he saw.
The team wrapped up the weekend with their most exciting game on Sunday. As they took the ice to face off against Rice for a second time, the guys knew they needed to step up to the occasion. Charlie Cobb (South Burlington, VT) started off the offensive attacked with a goal assisted by Dan Concannon (Everett, MA) and Tyler Albano (Beverly, MA). Brendan Moore (Springfield, MA) then added BA’s second tally of the night with assists from Concannon and Matt Buckley (Canton, MA). With Rice ahead 3-2, BA fought back literally until the last second. With one second on the clock Brad McGovern (Haverhill, MA) snuck the puck past Rice’s goaltender with help from Alex Bartlett (South Burlington, MA) to tie the game up. Both teams chose three skaters to compete in a shootout, which also ended in a tie as neither team was able score.
As Coach Lounsbury said, “the games were all disappointing losses for the guys.” He then added, “but it’s the games like these that teach us how to be mentally prepared for 60 minutes of hockey.”
The team will travel to Kents Hill on Tuesday to play at 4:00 P.M.
