Is Tad Gold the best athlete at BA?

All this week Coach Sawicki has been performing exit testing for all the BA athletes. Most of them have been involved with the spring strength program and the SQA program. Meanwhile, all Tad Gold has been up to is going from hitting over .400 for the baseball team in the fall to being the second leading scorer for the hockey team this winter to tearing the cover off the ball again this spring for the baseball team. If that weren't enough, Tad might have proven yesterday to be the best athlete in the school.

Coach Sawicki was testing 40 yard dash times and vertical jump in the ice arena and 20 yard shuttle in the gym. Because the baseball team was rained out and looking for something to do, Tad jumped into the mix. What he did was simply amazing. On three separate tests, Tad registered the fastest times in the school this year with 4.30 seconds all three times. He then jumped into the vertical jump test and recorded a very respectable 30.5 inches. The testing then transitioned to the gym and on a test that Tad had never performed, he ran the fastest time in the school. After getting a feel for the test, he ran a blistering 3.98 seconds.

Coach Sawicki said afterwards, "It was one of the most impressive performances I have ever seen. For someone to come in and never have run any of the tests before and then knock off the best times this year is a thing of beauty. I would love to see what he could do if he had a little time to train."

Siegel Shines at Norwich

Freshman year at college can be challenging. Being a Freshman student athlete on a nationally ranked hockey team makes everything a little worse. BA Alum Eric Siegel (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington High School) has continued to excel both academically and atheletically. The Norwich Cadets won the 2010 Division 3 National Championship at Lake Placid, NY. Unfortunately, Eric suffered a serious knee injury that kept him out for the second half of the year. Prior to the injury, Eric was playing regularly for the Cadets and seeing ice time on the power play. Additionally, he won 75% of faceoffs taken and played outstanding end zone defense.
With a extremely demanding hockey schedule, including rehabilitation, Eric has continued to excel academically. As History/Criminal Justice Major, Eric made the Spring's Dean's list. "The study habits I learned at Bridgton really helped me be a more complete student this year. The fact I know how to study and stay organized and prepared has made all the difference" said Siegel.
