BRIDGTON HOCKEY GOAL PROGRAM AT SBES

The Wolverine Hockey Team made their third appearance to Stevens Brook Elementary School. Mrs. Webb's Kindergarten class was visited by Captain Kyle O'Connell, Mr. Brundage's 3rd grade class welcomes Tad Gold and Robby Campbell, Mrs. Lepage's class worked on reading comprehension with George Costa and Nate Potter, Mrs. Van Atta's class enjoyed some gym time with Jake Donahue and Ian Edwards, Mrs. Jones' class played "Pass the Pig" with Patrick Martin and Patrick Sen and finally Mrs. Clark's worked on math games with Nick Billingham and Mike Iacobucci.

BA STUNS ROTHESAY NETHERWOOD

Bridgton decided to bring everything, including the kitchen out for their final game in Lake Placid. Bridgton took on the Rothesay Netherwood School and did an excellent job at both ends of the ice. After the first period, the score was knotted 0-0, but BA held a 18-12 shot advantage. This season, BA has had a few mental lapse during a game. Most times, these "lapses" turned into great scoring opportunities for heir opponents. Darren Casey-Covell(Orono, ME/Bangor High School) took a feed from Casey Helms(Sandwich, MA) gained the offensive zone, cut to the right and buried a snap shot blocker side. BA continued to press and Patrick Sen(Niles,IL/Loyola Academy) tipped in a Trey Rasmussen (West Tisbury, MA/Martha's Vineyard High School) shot to give BA a 2-0 edge. However, controlling the game and finishing the game are two different things. Rothesay cut the lead to 2-1 and then with 3 minutes to play scored the equalizer on the power play. BA continued to pressure, but was unable to score. With 34 seconds remaining, BA ran the Martha's Vineyard Hustle. Mike Iacobucci(Franklin, MA) one the face off in the BA zone back to Rasmussen, who immediately shot the puck in front of his net and which then deflected off the boards into the neutral zone.
Fellow Vineyard alum Tad Gold(Oaks Bluff, MA/Martha's Vineyard High School)took off as soon as Iacobucci won the draw and walked in on a breakaway. Storybook ending? Nope. The Rothesay goalie got a piece of the shot and it sailed 10 feet to the left of the goal. Tie Game? Nope. Patrick Martin(Hanover, MA) also was driving up the ice a banged the rebound in behind the Rothesay goalie....BA wins 3-2!!! Goalie Robby Campbell(Braintree, MA) picked up the win in goal.

WOLVERINE MANAGER SET RECORD

Cam Meserve, BA Hockey Team Manager, broke his previous chicken nugget devoured record by 14 this past weekend in Lake Placid. The previous record of 42, was destroyed when Cam took down an unbelievable 56 nuggets. Ex-BA Hockey Coach and current Nichols School Coach Jamie Printz was astonished when he witnessed the feat. "I truly thought the 44 nuggets would stand for a few more years."
Captain Kyle O'Connell added, "I wish I could be an eating machine like Cam. It was amazing watching him take down all those nuggets".

NICHOLS DOWNS BA 6-1

Game 2 was another 6-1 loss for BA. Bridgton poured 34 shots on the Nichols and could only manage one goal. Patrick Sen(Niles, IL/Loyola Academy) scored a gorgeous one time from the high slot. Aaron Semiao(North Reading, MA) and Jesse Shavel(Cumberland, ME/Greely High School) worked the puck down low in the Nichols zone and allowed Sen to find an open lane for BA's lone goal.
The second half of the game, Nichols capitalized on three power play opportunities to put the game out of reach and eliminate BA from tournament contention.
"I thought at times we played really well. Worked hard, battle down low with and without the puck and ready brought a physical presence to the game. Guys like O'Connell, Donahue and Savage really punished their opponents every chance they had" said Assistant Coach Mike Meserve
Through the first two games, BA has been outscored 12-2, but those number don't account for the strong play of Captain Kyle O'Connell(Bridgewater,MA/Bridgewater Raynham High School). Many spectators commented on how dominate O'Connell was in both games. He managed to have a handful of highlight reel hits each game and made opponents aware of him on the ice.

NORTHWOOD 6 BA 1

The 6 -1 loss looks loopsides, but if it wasn't for a few bad endzone turnover and poorly timede defensice steps, BA was in this game. Northwood displayed some great skills, but BA brought their level of toughness to a whole new level. Northwood players were greeted often by driving Wolverine players. Unfortunately, Norwthwwod capitalized on their offensive opportunities and BA didn't Goalie Ian Edwards(Linden, MI/Motor City Chiefs) turned aside 36 shots in the lose. Aaron Semiao(North Reading, MA) scored the lone BA goal, with Patrick Sen(Niles, IL/Loyola Academy)and Jesse Shavel(Cumberland, ME/Greely High) picked up the assists.

WELCOME TO LAKE PLACID

Bridgton Academy enjoyed a leasurely drive through Vermont, across a ferry on Lake Champlain and through Northern New York and arrived Thursday evening in Lake Placid, NY. Coach Lounsbury had set up a practice at the Olympic Facility at the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena.

HEBRON REGAINS FABELLO CUP

Bridgton and Hebron Academy play a series of games ever year to see who will claim the Fabello Cup. The past two years, Bridgton has managed to keep the cup on campus. However, Hebron went to work capitalizing on numerous Wolverine turnovers and crushed BA 6-1. "We still have a lot of trouble with turnovers in our zone. Hebron did an outstanding job capitalizing on the turnovers. We did a great job not turning over the puck for 50 minutes, but those 10 minutes we did, they hurt us" said Coach Jon Lounsbury.

Student Profile: Evan Schwender

HOMETOWN: Saunderstown, RI

IN HIGH SCHOOL: I didn’t care for the first few years of high school, but then in my junior year some events happened and I decided right then that I needed to turn my life around. In my senior year I got honor roll every quarter, and changed my life around.

HEARD ABOUT BA: I talked to Coach Meserve, and I had decided in my senior year, that I wanted to do a post graduate year. I was looking around prep school, I visited Winchendon and Hebron and people there would talk about Bridgton too. Then I checked it out and I actually really liked it.

GOALS AT BA: I want to achieve a 3.4 GPA or over, and I want to basically prepare myself for success in college and life. I also want to get into school and be able to play as much hockey as I can while balancing it with life and academics.

BA IS DIFFERENT FROM HIGH SCHOOL: You have more of a safety net here, and you have to follow guidelines for success. If you start to slip up then someone will help you back up and show you how to do it.

BEST ABOUT BA: Other than the bread up at lunch, I would definitely say all the students, and how its all guys you don’t have that competition always. Everybody gets along, as long as you don’t have a problem with someone else for no reason.

WORST THING ABOUT BA: The whole being up in the middle of nowhere or when you have to wake up early in the morning when you go to bed late, but for the most part its actually not that bad.

ACTIVITIES AT BA: Hockey.

OUTSIDE OF BA: I used to play semi pro paint ball. I enjoy playing hockey and hanging out with friends, we have a lot of campfires.

ROLE MODEL: My Mom, she basically supports me through everything I do and is one of the reasons I am here.

FAVORITE BOOK: Into The Wild.

FAVORITE MOVIES: Slapshot, or The Girl Next Door.

FAVORITE SPORTS TEAM & ATHLETE: Minnesota Wild are my favorite hockey team and the Chicago Bears are my favorite football team. Favorite athlete is definitely either Milan Lucic or Pavel Bure.

FAVORITE MUSIC: I like a lot of everything. My favorite artist would be Black Dolly Murder, but I listen to everything.

FRIENDS WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW: They pretty much know a lot about me, I’m the first hockey player in my family.

BA PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS SHOULD KNOW: The all guys thing, you should get past that fact because its not the best thing but you make a lot of new friends and its not as bad as it seems. If you messed up in high school you get a second chance up here. It will prepare you for college definitely.

BA EDGES GLADES 2-1

Behind a stellar performance by Nate Potter (Hartford,VT/Hartford High), BA defeated the Vermont Glades Norwich University. Potter turned aside 25 shots through two 25 minute halves. The lone Glades goal came on the power play, where Potter was screened the entire time.
BA might of played their most complete game of the year. "This was Bridgton Hockey. We battled hard in both ends of the ice and controlled the puck deep in the offensive zone" said Assistant Coach Mike Meserve. The Wolverines scored the first goal of the game when Colin Hurd (West Tisbury, MA/Martha's Vineyard High) took a feed from Chris Howard (Shelburne,VT/CVU) and buried a shot low blocker side. Patrick Sen (Niles, IL/Loyola Academy) also added an assist on the play. Bridgton controlled the tempo for most of the period, but reaclly lacked the "Killer" punch to put the Glades away.
The second half started like the first. BA constantly pressured in the Glades zone, but managed very few high quality shots. Defenseman David Stevens (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) scored on a nice wrist shot on the power play. Howard picked up his second assist of the game when his made a nice fake on a shot and slide the puck over to a waiting Stevens. Stevens then drove a gorgeous shot low blocker side, through a screen, for the eventual game winner.
BA looks to build on their winning ways when they take on rivals Hebron Academy at home Wednesday 4:00pm.

STANDSTEAD COLLEGE KNOCKOUT

The game of hockey is 60 minutes long. Unfortunately, BA found out the hard way what happends if you play 50 minutes. Within a 5 minute span in the second period and a 5 minute span in the third period, Standstead scored 4 goals. Before and after that time, BA's defense was outstanding. Great end zone defense, closing the gap between themselves and opposing players and just being very physical. Ian Edwards(Linden, MI/Motor City Chiefs) turned aside 32 shots in goal for BA.
One goal of the coaching staff was for players to put more puck to the net. "Tonight we had 30 shots on goal, but we have to figure out a way to get some of those in a better scoring area. Unfortunately, we really have to learn to pay the price for going into that area" said Assistant Coach Mike Meserve. Defenseman David Stevens(Lynn, MA/Lynn English High) scored the lone Bridgton goal. Mike Iacobucci(Franklin, MA/Franklin High) and Patrick Martin(Hanover, MA/Hanover High) earned the assists.
Bridgton has also been on a scoring slump. In their last 10 games, they have only managed 16 goals. Additionally, the have only averaged 21 shots on goal during that time.

BA HOCKEY LOVES THE SNOW

Its little known fact, Wolverines love to play in the snow. The small, but ferocious animal, who often take on creatures twice their size, have been known to be playful in their outside winter wonderland. The Bridgton Academy coaching staff put this idea to the test Monday afternoon.

TIRED LEGS EQUAL LOSS FOR BA

Their third game in just over 30 hours was disaster. The first period saw the New Hampshire Monarchs pour shot after shot onto BA goalie Rob Campbell (Braintree, MA/Braintree High). Campbell finished with 37 shot for the game. After one period, BA was down 7-0. What was said during intermission isn't know, but even though tired, BA tightened up their defense and managed to put some pressure on the Monarchs.
The final half ended with the Monarchs defeating BA 7-0. Casey Helms(Sandwich, MA/Sandwich High) played outstanding in one of his first games after finishing up lacrosse.

BA DROPS LITTLE FLYERS 3-2

The Wolverines came out flying and left no doubt how hungry they were for a win. From the beginning, BA poured shot after shot on the Little Flyers goalie. 5 minutes into the first, Aaron Semiao (North Reading, MA/North Reading High) banged in a puck with Tad Gold (Oak's Bluff, MA/Martha's Vineyard High School) and Kyle O'Connell (Bridgewater, MA/Bridgewater-Raynham High) adding the assits. Ian Edwards(Linden, MI/Motor City Chiefs) was stellar in the pipes turning away 15 shots in the first. BA continued their assault on the power play, when defenseman, Chris Howard (Shelburne,VT/CVU) snipped a power play goal. BA gained a two goal lead when Jesse Shavel(Cumberland, ME/Greely High) took a feed from O'Connell and Gold and buried the puck in the back of the net.
BA played well in the second half, but penalties allowed the Little Flyers to sneak within one. With two minutes remaining and on a 5-3 penalty kill, Evan Schwender (Saundertown, RI/North Kingstown High), Jacob Donahue (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott High) and O'Connell shut down the Little Flyers and preserved the win.

JUNIOR FLYERS DOWN WOLVERINES

The Philly Junior Flyers took down a highly motivated Wolverine Team 5-0 Friday afternoon. BA's first game after break was inspiring. They moved their feet, played solid position and were very engaging in all areas of the ice.
Nate Potter(Hartford High School/Hartford,VT) faced 13 shots in the first and 18 in the second period. The Flyers were very fortunate with a few tips and bounces, which lead to three goals.
